His father had told him he felt a change coming over the islands, but Castillon didn’t quite understand yet what those words meant. The young stallion had tried to, but he had not lived the extensive life that Zevulun had. Castillon was three, barely going on four in spring. This would be the first season there would be mares birthing his children. He was going to be a father. He had already been named a secondary lead, and it was generally accepted that one day, the entirety of the Prairie would look to him to lead them. Castillon was just looking at his first taste of adult life; one day he would understand the way the years passed over the islands.
Either way, despite if he understood what Zevulun meant or not, he was aware there was an increase in activity as of late. Not only had the lagoon bachelor come after Leukos and then Aura, he had learned they had gone after another Luthien herd just a season prior. Nephilim had told him of changes occurring in Tinuvel, in his very home, and Castillon had to wonder if this increase in activity extended to Atlantis and Salem as well. Maybe a visit to see his mother in the Badlands was in order? Zevulun had told him he would no longer be returning to visit his mother and she was most likely permanently staying within the Badlands, but that’s all he would say on the matter.
Please help me!
Castillon’s head shot up, a hard, surprised snort pushing from his dark nostrils as he looked around him to figure out where the cry had come from. He was already stumbling to move before he’d oriented himself in the direction he needed to go. Castillon tossed his head, displacing his black mane across his neck before turning and trotting off after the one who’d called out.
He did not recognize the two mares he came across, and he immediately looked beyond them as if expecting to see that gargantuan brute who’d tried to take Aura. No one was there, however, and both mares looked as if they were still damp, their coats smelling of the sea. Castillon drew to a halt in front of them and looked between them quickly before asking, “Is everything alright? I heard one of you calling out for help.”
