- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
moondust in your lungs

It was hard for Vervain at first not to loose the breath she felt she'd been holding. She was glad he hadn't called her a liar; wouldn't that have been awful? Gladder still was she to hear his assent and moreover that he also liked walking on the beach. A softer smile lighted on her lips at this. He had talked about the Arch before, but the girl knew she'd end up asking him about it again. Some day, not today though. Instead of her prattling on and asking him questions, Nephilim asked her one: did she know where Castillon was?

For another heartbeat, Vervain is flutteringly nervous. What if she didn't know? She was pretty sure that she had seen Castillon not too, too far away earlier that morning, but that didn't mean he'd stayed there. Then he smiled. It had warmed her in a new way lately, one that made her quite agreeable and a little shy. The sight of it made her soft expression grow into a fuller grin. Then he talked about vagabonds coming to steal him away and how she could protect him, which made her laugh! Gone was the wilting thing, and here was the laughing lady.

She gently bumped her sleek shoulder to his, as an inexperienced schoolgirl might gently smack the arm of a teasing upperclassman. Her lashes fluttered once when Vervain went to look back at the young stallion again. "Oh, I suppose," she said, teasing him back. "We can try the spot where I saw him this morning, but you know Castillon. He doesn't exactly stay still." Whether patrolling the Prairie or going off to see Nephilim, her pseudo-brother did not repose for long.
