GUIDELINES
common sense, really
i. the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
ii. anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
iii. adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
iv. the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
v. the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
moondust in your lungs

The impact of his body against hers had not been expected. The force of the stallion’s chest into her hip pushed Vervain off course, knocking some of the air from her lungs in a way that produced an unintended sound somewhere between a cry and a grunt. The terrain beneath her shifted precariously as the brindle scrambled to stay upright, stumbling into the shallows. The water rushed against her legs as a wave rolled in, tossing foam up in a spray against the mare’s sweat-soaked skin. Saltwater intermingled with the tears blurring her vision, following the fresh tracks down her cheeks.

The monster’s teeth found purchase in the dark hollow of her flanks. The skin was pinched roughly between the foremost incisors. The pain and the terror it incited forced Vervain forward into the deepening water. A sob racked her form as the maiden’s dark head shot upward to stay above the rising waves. Dark ears pinned back against her poll in an instinctual attempt to keep the water from entering them. “Please,” she sputters loudly, desperately. “I just want to go home!” The words rose in pitch as they escaped her.

Striped sides heaved at the pace of her labored breathing. Still he forced her into sea. The water mounted until Vervain could feel her hooves slipping, leaving the solid sandy bottom of the shallows. New fear gripped the night-dark girl: she'd never gone this far from shore. Her legs splayed and struck out awkwardly in the water, a pitiful excuse for swimming. She wanted to turn, wanted to go back to land, solidity, and safety, but the monster was there to block her path. Vervain sobbed as she struggled, realizing there was no going back.
