I’ll wait for you, Vadim.
Despite the seasons that had passed since his meeting with the dun and white mare, he had not forgotten her. Vadim had recalled their conversation several times over, especially in the quiet hours of the night when his thoughts were the loudest to keep him company. Yet, he could not go back for her without first accomplishing his establishment in the Badlands. Or, even somewhere else, if he was declined. Doubt dogged his steps for quite some time, making him hesitant to return to what he felt like was home. But he couldn’t be a coward forever and eventually he did make his way back to Salem.
The reunion wasn’t what Vadim had hoped for, but it did accomplish what he had desired. A place amongst a real family. Those that would look out for him as much as he would them.
Vadim allowed a little bit of time to pass to settle in, and to prove to Arsinoe that he was being truthful about his faithfulness. But just as he had made promises to the Badlands Princess of his loyalty, he felt the same for the mares he had made relations with. Vadim couldn’t abandon them either. So he took to the salty water now, and returned to the Crossing.
The draft stallion spent a full day and night traversing the crossing before he picked up a familiar scent the following day. It made his heart flutter in his chest with excitement and he followed after the trail until he spotted the painted mare grazing alone up ahead. He paused, debating how he should approach her, but he couldn’t come up with anything solid to say. So with a deep settling breath, he walked the rest of the way over, giving a deep rumbling nicker.
