Halla had not grown up by her mother's side under the loving eye of her father. She had not grown up in the safety of a herd, encircled by members of her family who had sworn to be her shield. Her mother had cast her aside as soon as she had been able, severing her connection to both her daughter and the man who had created her. It was not an insult to her father, it had been a fleeting meeting in the heat of the season. Eydis' issues stemmed from deeper than that, and even if Halla had wanted to, she was not properly equipped to help her mother through her emotions. And it should not have fallen on her shoulders either way. And so, Halla had no reservations about the Commons was. She was not expecting a fairy tale where a stallion would show up and pledge his undying love and protection to her forever with honeyed words and an honest heart. Truthfully, she wasn't even sure someone would notice her.
Her expression was tentative and curious, yet timid, as she headed into the Commons. Her mother's disinterest in her had led Halla to grow up on without proper nourishment. She was waiflike, with legs seeming almost too long despite her stature. Her eyes were pale, rimmed with thick white lashes. Her hair was thin and long, tugged easily by the breeze.
The exertion of her walk had taken a lot out of her and Halla felt her eyes grow tired. She took a stumbling step, catching herself on her cream hooves. With a sigh, she found herself a quiet corner tucked away by some trees. She admired the blue and pink flowers that sprouted in the sun and nestled down in them. She was picturesque as she laid down among the flora and closed her eyes lightly. Just a minute or two, she told herself.
