The way he watches her cold. Besides the moments of emotion that shows his morbid sense of humor, it was almost as if he didn't care to be here at all. Fact of the matter was Isla was the lucky pick of the day. It could have been anyone, but fate had chosen her. It could just be because of her breeding. That her stature was similar to his own in yet still unique. Maybe it had just been because she was walking away from the crowd instead of towards the masses.
Perhaps he liked the chase.
It didn't take long for the tension between them to return. He notices the clench of her jaw immediately after stating she had not asked about the Inlet. This only made him chuckle. If anything this mare could entertain him just long enough for Nicodemus to believe he was trying to be a herd stallion. He wouldn't be great at it, but he didn't need to be. No need to procreate or do any of those lead stallions things. Just play pretend for a little bit.
"A shame," She says as his head tilts with the tug of a smile on his lips. He remains silent as he watches the wheels turn behind her eyes. It was clear she was annoyed with him. Was that the right term? Disappointed maybe? His shoulders shrug as his head returns to its normal position. The next words out of her mouth brings a flash of light across his eyes. "Age is but a number," He says as she takes a step back.
"Besides your the one whose talking funny." Like a child, he thinks. Though he couldn't remember any children he grew up around talking like she did either. Although..."But do you know of a younger 'lass' or whatever you call it? You could definitely send her my way too." He winks his icy blues. Not one, but two mare's would really solidify his cover. "Now enough games," He takes a step forward to close the distance she just created. "We have a long journey ahead."
His eyes twinkle for the first time in this conversation with the anticipation of what might come next.
