A mother's love is saying 'I told you so'

The steel grey colt was having fun, splashing in the water and trying to jump the waves, oblivious to his frustrated mother trying to get his attention. At 9 months old he hadn't seen nearly enough of the world to be afraid of anything. Cocky and sure of himself as he splashed around, always on the move on long nimble legs.
"TINO"
Ok that he heard, as well as the scolding toning that told him if he didn't listen he'd be getting his butt kicked.
Stopping in chest high water he turned his head to see his mother a few feet away, ears pinned back as she stared at him with that no nonsense look he had come to know very well.

God help her this colt was going to be the death of her! She had stopped briefly to try and get her bearings only to turn round and find he'd run off ahead and found the water. She had tried to call him back, not that it had done a lot of good, weather he'd heard her or not she wasn't sure and so filled will frustration she had made sure he damn well heard her this time.
"Come on" she said a little softer this time as her wayward son came out of the water to stand beside her, sulking like the bratty child he was.

He was almost as tall as his mother even at only 9 months old and she knew he'd been taller than her by the time he was grown. His dark black coat had started changing already, he'd probably be white by the time he was an adult. It was a contrast to her dark Sooty palomino coat that was broken up by the white patches of her tovero markings, not something he'd inherited from her.

She was lost and she knew it, but she wouldn't voice that outloud. If nothing more than to avoid hearing her smart arse sons reply of 'you can't be lost if you don't know where your heading', yer she didn't need to hear that again!

Walking more inland with her not so little young behind her she stopped again to scan the area for any sign of where to go but was distracted by a commotion behind. Turning the groan, could this boy not go 5 minutes without getting into something he shouldn't.
"Tino, leave it alone" she said referring to the snake he was playing with... or tormenting might be a better word.
"It will bite you" she warned, earning herself a snort from the overly confident colt.
Reconizing the snake as non poisonous she decided to leave him to learn his lesson the hard way, not at all surprised by the high pitched squeal of pain that came a minute later.

The boisterous colt had found a new toy, a snake of some type. Watching as it tried to flee he jumped forward bring both front down on either side of it, taking the creatures tail gently in his mouth his picked it up and flung it into a nearby patch of grass, ignoring his mother warning as he once again jump towards it, grabbing it by its middle in his mouth, gentle enough not to harm the snake as he once more threw it in the air before jumping after it again.
This time though the snake had had enough and when nimble legs has crashed down beside it, it had struck out, inflicting a bite to the playful colts lower front leg.
Tino let out a squeal of pain as he jumped back, pain radiating from his lower limb, standing looking pitiful as he watched the snake scurry away.

Turning he glanced at his mother, hobbling over to her, feeling somewhat sorry for himself. The look she gave him was one that said 'I told you so'.
Reach her he placed his head over her back, seeking comfort which his mother gave him silently.

Distracted by her energetic child though, she had dropped her gaurd of watching her surroundings.
