Eriana had stood upon the shore, tears in her eyes, as her parents swam away. Even though she knew they would be back someday, it was the first time she would be without her mother, and the first time she didn’t have the safety of her father who had always been in the prairie. They had offered for her to join them on their journey to the mainland, but Eriana had chosen to stay. It was time she find a life for herself, as hard as that was to stick with that decision.
For the first season, she lingered in the Falls and in the Meadow. The idea that she would approach someone and make friends, or even a stallion to flirt with, always in the back of her mind. But it never happened. Each horse she spotted was either already talking with someone, or her heart hammered too hard in her chest for her to think about saying anything reasonable that didn’t make her sound stupid. Eriana had never been shy before, so she wasn’t sure why she was being that way now.
One morning, the pale mare decided she was tired of being alone. As dangerous as it was, it was still a risk she was willing to take, as she crept into the Commons. Eyes glancing around, she didn’t see anyone yet, but she knew soon enough someone would show up. With a heavy sigh, she lowered her head and began to graze as she waited. Nerves making her jittery on the inside that she might be finding a home; calm on the outside, because she didn’t want to scare any potential suiters away.
