It felt strange, leaving Zohara at home without her. It wasn’t as if the girl didn’t have enough family to look out for her. Nico is fortunate enough to be surrounded by his family members, as well as his herd and his subs. Pyre still had to remind herself regularely that her daughter would be just fine with her babysitter, Devi. The mare had raised plenty of her own children that Pyre didn’t think she would allow anything bad to happen to her own. It was just that mother instinct was hard to turn off.


Maybe this had been a bad idea.


After wandering the meadow and falls looking for what she had hoped would be potential herdmates, Pyre had decided to go home. Nature had different plans. By the time she made it to the shore to begin her swim back to Tinuvel, the storm had come in. Cresttfallen, the sabino mare tucked herself into a stand of trees, hoping that it would pass soon so that she could return home.


Without realizing it, Pyre had dozed off during her wait. A voice startled her awake, and she turned her head so that her sparkling blue eyes to peer through the trees to see who had spoken. Laying upon the ground was a bloodied draft mare, and before her a stallion. Ears quickly pin to her skull, but then push forward. He looked concerned? Pyre wavered on whether she should approach or not, but decided she had no reason not to. So, with confidence in her step, she walked over to the pair.


“Clearly she is not okay.” Pyre stated as she come to stand on the other side of the mare, her blue eyes leveled on the stallion. “Why don’t you try to help her up instead of asking the obvious?”
