Snow was beginning to collect on her back, the naked branches above doing little to offer her shelter from the heavily falling snow, and she struggled to keep her eyes closed. The layer of white powder muffled her surroundings, so she had little idea that Alioth approached until he spoke her name. Ears twitching to the sound, the pintaloosa opened her eyes at last, turning her head so she could look at the stallion.
At first, the young mare felt a flash of irritation. If he hadn’t stuck his nose into her business, she wouldn’t be homeless and cold and alone. But….. that anger quickly melted away. The way he’d stood next to her, facing down that stranger, Eriana was sure that he was only trying to protect her. But what good had that protection done for her, when she had been left all alone again?
“What do you want, Alioth?” Her flat tone was barely a question, and she turned her head away from him, her ears splayed out to the side rather than pinned. Eriana didn’t have the strength to show her anger, and decided it wouldn’t have been worth it anyways. “You’re a little too late if you’ve come to woo me for Autumn.” She couldn’t help but let the snarky words escape, hoping they would push him away rather than let him see how pathetic she currently was.
