The anxiety that clamped around his chest like a vice loosened as Hellfyre’s scent filled his nose. The white, satin skin of the stallion’s nostrils fluttered with every deep inhale and exhalation, letting her perfume and the smell of afterbirth soothe him. Nothing unfortunate had happened here. Everything was as it should be. The statements reverberated through his dappled body, caught somewhere between a mantra and a prayer.
Quietly, the silver stallion listened to Hellfyre as she confessed her worries. His pale lips toyed with the pale strands of her mane, attempting to soothe the female. "Shhhhhh, you have nothing to fear, Hellfyre," he murmured softly, nuzzling her cheek. Canis knew there were growing pains for every mare who had to adjust to being a mother. Fear, he knew, seemed to be normal, especially for first time mothers.
Canis' eyes ticked downward, spying the little filly thatt stared up at him. She was so small, standing nextt tto her mother, a delicate, little wonder. The grullo male was always so astounded by the petite shape of his children. Had he really been so small once? Amusement triggered a rumbling chuckle in his throat as the red girl nickered to him."Hello, little one," Canis remarked, lowering his muzzle to touch his daughter's reaching one. His nostrils fluttered against hers as the stallion softly snorted, teasing her.
Larkin. Hellfyre whispered the name of their fiery little daughter. A smile blossomed across his lips. "It's wonderfu-- She's wonder-" he paused, eyes shining happily as Canis turned to look at her and brushed his muzzle affectionately across her skin. "You. You are wonderful."
