What a spin. Flisk is not hating on Tier 1 or attempting to reduce their benefits. He is merely trying to increase the benefits of Tier 2 to make up for that travesty of legislation from 2011.
And there have been recent legislation to correct the disparity. I will never say they haven’t tried. But you cannot tell me it looks very suspicious that for #### near 15 years, nothing was done, now all of a sudden we’re supposed to believe the legislators are sympathetic to tier 2 benefits?
Just look at the most recent contract. They walked back the amount of time that a FF/EMT needs to collect EMT pay. Why? Because the new hires were having to work over 4 years as an EMT before collecting any additional money. And it increased every contract. Who is behind that? Moore tier one guys thinking to themselves, let’s sell out the new guy to maintain our benefits. You have to stop thinking like that. That’s where we are in the situation that is unfolding right now. The union backs tier one, thinking that’s a problem 15 years down the line they won’t have to deal with.
