half agony, half hope

Corvette welcomed the rain. Relished the way the icy droplets stung her skin. They were so cold, so sharp she could not ignore them. They made her yearn for the numbness that she used to armor her heart with, but not allow her to reach for it.

She shivered, her pale coat growing darker with each drop until she was a dark, shivering gray mass amongst the spring-green grass. Still, she kept her head upturned, letting the drops trace the pretty lines of her face from the slight dome of her forehead to the dainty point of her chin and down her throat.

Far above, melancholy gray clouds clumped together in their trek across the Commons, bathing the landscape in sheets of rain. Corvette had the Commons to herself, as it seemed that most of the other hopefuls had retreated to the relative shelter of the trees to avoid the stinging cold. It was not yet warm enough for such a bath to feel good to most. After years of living on Tinuvel, however, Corvette was more adapted to the cold than most.

A rumble of thunder tickled her hooves from deep in the ground, heralding the end of the storm. It was not here yet, but she could see the sun glowing in the distance as if she were racing pell-mell down an underground tunnel. Corvette smiled and opened her eyes to focus on the creature she found feel standing before her, having sensed their arrival through other means.

"It's beautiful, isn't it?" She asked, not because she wanted them to agree, but because in answering, they might reveal a bit of themselves.
