Unfortunately, I agree more with Bada-Bing says than Craig G.
Caveat though--Benny tries with what he has been given, and what he has been given is not really all that much. Benny tries very hard and doesn't seem to have the tools or backing that they have further south. He even tried to make the all-singles format (which is dreadful) seem enticing by calling it Super Singles. When Benny retires, this operation and jai alai as you and I remember from the old days is officially done, I think. I hope that's not for a very long time but who is going to pick up the mantle? The last 4 years doesn't happen without Benny Bueno.
But to ask how do you know the best days are behind? Last night I watched a tournament game from sometime in the early/mid 80's at Miami on YouTube. The play was unbelievable and it was LOUD. The thing that struck me most was the time of day. The game started at 1:15 in the morning. You think this could happen again? Let's be real--at this point, if you could have jai alai back to where it was 20 years ago (never mind 40), it would be a victory.
A lot of the kids playing now are talented and are very athletic and strong. Let's hope we have a few years left for this thing and support what we can.
