If I think more practically about finances, I wonder if I should rent out my current house with the 2.99% mortgage, rent an apartment/condo close to work, and use my current savings for retirement land in NC or southwest VA mountains.

Despite manager assurances, I don't think there's any real guarantees for job security in corporate America. It probably doesn't make sense to be eating those realtor fees for moves that could easily be short-term.

This thread is not helping my decision paralysis, but definitely giving me some other things to think about.

- Feels like remote work is drying up, and expensive non-revenue generating resources are not high-priority. Only prospective employer that would be a good commute from my current house is primarily a broker-dealer, which is not a great fit for me.
