Well, that was hardly polite, the malamute thought with a #### of his head. Surely he wasn't the brightest of dogs, but the diminutive and insult weren't necessary - but Koguma didn't have much time to dwell on Maliki's rudeness. Out of nowhere the lion raised his paw and lashed out at him. Fortunately, Koguma noticed the quick movement in time to pull his head out of the way, but not quickly enough to fully escape the blow - Maliki's claws grazed the broad bridge of his muzzle, ripping away fur and scraping the flesh. Koguma stumbled back into the cold river, splashing a little and shaking his head as he looked pointedly at the lion.

"What was that for!" he yelped, glaring, his muscular body tense now. He was hardly the size of Maliki, but was a heavyweight in his own right, used to being the brawn of his sled team. Still, he wanted to avoid getting hit by the lion's claws as much as he could, and so kept a wary eye on Maliki, snorting a little and making sure to try to keep some space between himself and the big cat. He was a little too far into the river now for his liking, the water at his knees, though this, he now realized, worked in his advantage. He knew he could keep pace with the water's current, whereas he assumed the lion would not be too keen on following him into the cold water, and so he could if need be retreat into the cold stream and swim away.
