At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

There were several things running through his mind at the moment. Paxten wasn't used to the majority of emotions gnawing at his insides - the main one being loneliness. He didn't even remember the last time he'd been remotely 'lonely'. After all, being that one golden child, the one everyone doted on and loved, didn't really give a boy the chance to experience things like that. Now that he did know what it felt like, he'd go straight back to the place he'd just abandoned without a second thought and beg for them to take him back, because he wasn't sure how much longer he could stand the ever-growing hole that seemed to hollow itself out in his chest. There was no way to really explain it - he just felt as though there was no one left to lean on. The lack of support was astounding to him and he wondered how any wolf could survive long without a pack, a family.

Paxten grimaced to himself as he padded through the thick vegetation of the forest, his leg throbbing. Just before he'd left, his younger brothers had cornered him against a cluster of trees and bitten him solidly into the limb, though he'd maneuvered cleverly enough that he evaded any injury that was too bad. He'd survive, at least, if he kept it clean. Theirs was a dirty move, so of course he'd retaliated. At the thought of of that fight, a smug smile made its way across his features. Served them right. Oh, it wasn't like he was a particularly violent or sadistic boy, but he did enjoy seeing the concept of 'what goes around, comes around' being put into action. The smile disappeared, though, when he stumbled over a jutting rock and yelped, managing to pick himself up before causing himself too much bodily harm.

His new goal was to find water. There was a faint mist in the air, which grew heavier as he moved farther, and then the combined scent of a mass of wolves. It'd been very quickly that Pax realized the different 'areas' that seemed to be populated more than others - even just as a place to be temporarily. He'd yet to go and explore the packlands, but he wasn't sure if any of the alphas would be particularly pleased if he did so. The pale wolf emerged from the treeline, his steely eyes searching the landscape curiously. There was a steep fall of water, the liquid tumbling through the air and into a resulting creek which flowed in a fairly tranquil manner but seemed cold in the damp spring air. Allowing himself to grin slightly once more, his ear twisted to the side to locate anyone passing by him as he made his way closer to the stream.

Dipping his head to lap gently at the refreshing water and then lifting his gaze to see for any interesting company, Paxten realized that the place seemed somewhat abandoned today. However, one wolf caught his eye - a younger looking girl with rich brown fur and bright coppery eyes. The boy smiled quietly to himself and sloshed his way through the water, letting it splash against his skin, and then skirted the base of the pile of boulders. Lithely, he pushed himself up next to her, hanging his own paws - even the wounded one - over the edge. Their furs brushed, but Paxten never really understood the point of personal space. If you couldn't protect yourself, you didn't really deserve to have space of your own anyway.

"So, doll," he said conversationally, his husky voice filling the space between them, a smirk tilting charismatically at his lips, "what's a girl like you doing alone? No company for tonight?"
