The Cavern of Secrets holds much more than you can imagine. Once a forbidden place, the ban on entrance has been released...yet, is it a good idea to enter?

Once a great battle had been fought in this cavern, against a dark beast that had once - and still might - dwell here. No one knows where he disappeared to, but there are rumours...

As Terrel laughed Mae’s ears flickered individually, first the right then the left, as though following the echoing sound as it bounced around their surroundings. It was a rare occurrence that the femme heard an echo, most of her time spent either in the open or in forests, and it was both interesting and, given where they were, creepy. They stood near the entrance, both adjusting to the cavern, and joked about the possibilities of a monster lurking deeper within, waiting to eat them. She raised a fine brow at his comment. “Well then I suppose you’ll have to act the hero and fight any monsters off,” she teased, “because I refuse to believe I taste anything but delicious.” She raised her muzzle in an act of a wolf full of themselves, holding it for a moment before bursting out with a laugh. The sound was louder than she expected, given the echo that she’d momentarily forgotten, and she jolted in surprise.

The pair moved on, Mae silently thankful to move away from the rain, and headed into the unknown. After a few minutes, their walk had only revealed more rock and a deeper caver, the light coming from occasional cracks in the ceiling slowly becoming less frequent. They found a nice spot to sit in, dry and off to the side, and began to talk about how they felt in the cavern. Both agreed it was creepy, but whether or not they’d return was a contrasting point of view. She tilted her head as he spoke, withholding details but revealing enough for her to realise he’d had a bad past. She knew it must be from his time as a pup, guessing he wouldn’t speak so highly of his adopted mother if she’d been involved. She didn’t know what to say, sure that by now anything she tried to comfort him with wouldn’t work; they hadn’t known each other for long and he seemed to have put it behind him. Instead she remained silent with a gentle smile on her face, attempting to convey that she understood that he didn’t want to reveal anything more.

Mae was grateful for the decision to sit for a while. She was still shaking, almost like a pup, as an after effect of the adrenaline that had fuelled her run into the cavern. The entrance was out of sight, which she was glad for. She would choose sitting in the dark over sitting in the rain any day. It wasn’t the fact that it was water, or that it was cold, but more that she wasn’t as used to it. As a pup the pack lands had been going through a long drought and hardly any rain fell. If one was unaccustomed to something at an early age, it made it harder to be around it as an older wolf, even if rational thought said everything was okay.

“I’m not really sure what sorts of games would be suitable for a dark cavern,” she thought, trying to tell if any games she knew of would be fun to play. She’d not played with another wolf in a long time so her memory was hazy, but she’d watched some of the other pups play in her pack when she was younger. A gust of wind suddenly swept past, evidence that although they were within the cave there was still a way out. The wind seemed to bite right through Mae’s pelt, thinned out and cold already due to water. A shiver wracked through her body and she stood up, unable to stop herself shaking out her pelt in an attempt to remove the water. “Sorry,” she said as she looked back to Terrel, hoping that if any of the water had reached him he wasn’t annoyed about it.

Mae turned her golden brown gaze back into the depths of the cavern, squinting to see what lay ahead. “Well…perhaps we could go on a little way…” she spoke quietly, tail wagging subtly, “…it’s a bit cold to be sat around.” As if to make her point, a subconscious shiver ran through her for a third time as the wind swept past. It wasn’t as strong as it would be outside and she guessed that further in they’d barely be able to feel it. She was a little worried about heading into the darkness, but was reassured with Terrel there. If something bad happened, at least they wouldn’t be alone. “What would you rather do?”
