aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The brute turned away from Leila sharply, not wanting her to see the embarrassment on his face after she had spoken her first set of words to him: Well I cannot express more about how happy I am to see you as alpha – and Kally, I am confident that you will live up to expectations. You have shown me you are a worthy leader, a kind one too. I’m sure you will bring this pack to a thriving state once more. Her words were not ones of a flirtatious nature, and yet they meant more to him than many of the flirtatious compliments that she had given to him while they had gotten to know each other at Staircase Falls. Her confidence in him was encouraging… Kal was finally beginning to realize how many lupines believed in his ability. His pack had voted him into the position of Alpha, showing immense trust by putting the future of the pack in his paws. And now Leila was calling him worthy. It meant a lot. As for bringing the pack back to life? That was exactly what he intended to do.

As Kal had turned to lead her through the terra, Leila’s voice has stopped him as she had immediately responded to his comment. I have arrived to reside in your terrain, Kally; however I do wish to see the pack first, with someone that I know and respect. A smile lit itself up his kissers, glad that he now had another close friend as a packmate. “I am gladdened indeed by your decision, my dear Leila. Now, allow me to show you some of the wonders of your new home. ” The brute slowed his pace, realizing that he was walking too quickly for Leila. She shot him an annoyed look, and Kal merely smiled at her. “Sorry Leila, I forget how big my stride is sometimes.” As they walked and talked, the brute occasionally glanced at his friend, watching her muscles twitching below his skin.

The brute paused, wondering if his friend wanted to pick up the pace. Knowing that she would be likely to push the pace if she wanted to speed up. As he looked up, Kal smiled, noting the thinning of the conifers. “Come on Leila, the clearing is just ahead.” And indeed, the trees continued to thin until a clearing came into view. The land lay flat, allowing a clear look at the sky above. The ground was soft below their feet, and there was a peacefulness in the air. “This is where we have most of our pack meetings. And, of course, as I mentioned before, this is where the Northern Lights are visible on some special nights.” Kal paused, wondering where to take her next, then smiled, knowing that she would enjoy the next site more than this one. Still, he waited, allowing her to enjoy the beauty of the clearing – it was a wide meadow, with plenty of space. Between the sunshine and the cloudless sky, along with the stark difference between the clearing and the surrounding wood, it was quite a sight.

After she had had plenty of time to enjoy it, Kal looked at her and tilted his head toward a different part of the wood. There was no set path where they were going, but Kal knew the way. “Ready for the next wonder of Aurora Borealis, dear Leila?
