At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Zelda hadn't realized how fascinated she'd become by manipulating her reflection in the water. Sometimes she was like a pup, the way the smallest things could capture her attention like this. Her surroundings were no longer registering in her thoughts, which is why she was so surprised by the feeling of a nose poking against her flank. She gasped, jumped, and whirled around to face whomever had touched her. It took her mind a moment to process who it was that she was seeing, and once she realized, her gold eyes widened to soak in every detail. Before she had the chance to react, he was already wrapping her in a wolfish hug and she eagerly returned the embrace. Her lips couldn't contain her excited shout.

“HEX!”

Zelda could hardly believe that he had found her there. Although she'd been back in Blossom Forest for a few days now, she had psyched herself out of seeking him out at his packland. She would have eventually, she was sure of it, but she'd been nervous. Disappearing on someone certainly risked the possibility of them forgetting about you, or no longer wanting you. But not Hex. She should have known... other wolves maybe, but never Hex. Oh, how she had missed that boy. Her boy. She owed him an explanation, that much was certain, but she hoped that he would understand. He usually did. Zelda inhaled deeply, taking in everything she could of him. She missed his scent being intertwined with her own. She missed the romping and joking and everything about him. She had missed him more than she thought she could ever miss someone. Commitment issues be damned, this moment confirmed something for her; he was more important than anything she could hope to find out there in the world. She refused to ever separate herself from him again. He kept repeating himself, and she wished to forever trap the sound of his voice forming her name against her ear.

“Zelda, I thought I'd lost you.”

She let out a small laugh. Not at his words; it was a laugh out of pure joy. A laugh that said she was so happy she couldn't possibly hold it in.

“Temporarily misplaced maybe... not lost.”

She rubbed her cheek into the side of his neck. “I'm sorry”, this time her voice was a whisper, and she continued massaging her face into his fur. She held onto the warm embrace for as long as he did, and if he decided to part them then she would give a small squeeze with her shoulder and chin before they pulled back.
