Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

Alone

Yes, that's the key word, the most awful word in the English tongue. Murder doesn't hold a candle to it and hell is only a poor synonym.

I moved with no real purpose on this winter day. I had no interest in pursuing females for my own desires, because unlike other hormone driven males, I could control myself and not succumb to such primal instincts. I was not hungry, I stole all the food I needed from the foolish wolves who thought that the caves and shadows were their homes. I had no reason for being out in the sunlight and snow, where I stuck out with my shadow appearance. But something pulled me out, lured me like the devil did to eve. I couldn't explain the pull, but it was there and it beckoned me, demanding not to be ignored.

I walked, silent as ever. I stuck to whatever shadows I could find, feeling more comfortable in a place I knew better than anywhere else. Up ahead I sensed it far before I could smell anything, chaos. I should just turn around right now, I hated other wolves, they never understood me, but I couldn't resist; the temptation to see what was going on was far too great. Oh demons of mine, why do you push me to do things I do not desire? Regardless of how I felt, my feet kept moving forward, headed to the fields; so wide open, so bright. What ever was down there better be worth my time, or i'd be rather upset.

The smell hit me like a bull. It was blatantly obvious that metallic stench belonged to the crimson that ran through every living creature's veins. There were also a lot of wolves, male and female alike. This is where I stopped and truly questioned my decision on coming out this day. So many wolves, I was bound to run into some problem with them, and I desired nothing more than to avoid all conflict. But why were all these wolves congregated together, they certainly were not pack, their scents too varied. This was not normal wolf behavior and if anyone understood what is was like to be abnormal it was me, and yet I didn't understand why these wolves were together. I shook off my doubts from before and continued forward, I needed to see this with my eyes, if only for a second, before I could be satisfied.

I stood, hidden in the shadows on the outskirts of the field, far enough away that none could see or smell me. I heard the rumbling of hooves and the excited yips and barks of wolves, yet when my vibrant blue and green eyes looked upon the scene they saw chaos as I had suspected. Some of the wolves tried to work together to hunt, others simply chased the stampeding elk on their own. Some had already succeeded in killing, and others were content to watch, some from the shadows, like me. This was not normal, even for Moladion standards. I moved down further, so I could see the wolves more clearer, though now I was in risk of being seen. Who were these strangers and why did they feel the need to all congregate here? These questions plagued my mind as I waited patiently for the answers to unfold and for the chaos it erupt into something more.
