At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

Though her parents had surely meant well by sheltering her fully from the outside world, they had done to her a disservice for she knew naught of its dangerous. Perhaps that was a false statement, for she knew of Kershov and what he had done to their family; by kidnapping her brother, or rather, demanding a ‘fair’ exchange, he had split their family in twain. Her parents swore they would visit him… but they hadn’t. Not even once. They were too frightened of breaking down in front of him, of making him miss home. No, it would be better, they said, if he learned to love his new home instead of missing his old one. Thus, Macaria had not been allowed to leave the pack, the boundary of Saw Tooth becoming the edge of her world. Until, that is, until today. Naively, she felt safe as she laid upon the beach of the lake, for she did not know that she should be wary of strangers… for she had always been safe from them without knowing of them. She had been hidden from them until they had already been accepted as members into the pack. But out here, packless, there was no one else to protect her. Naively, she closed her eyes and flattened her auds to block out the sounds surrounding her. She should have rather kept them erected, better to be awakened by a sound, her sleep disturbed briefly, than to miss the footfalls of an approaching danger. Thus, her slumber was not light and fragile, but rather a deep one that sent her into a different world, one of dreams and adventures. She dreamed of saving her brother and of a family reunited… one in which she was back on friendly terms with her mother instead of spurning her very existence. So long had her mother ignored her and done nothing to comfort her… in her dream world all was forgiven and once more their family was perfect and they were loved and loving. Abruptly, she was ripped from that world as a shooting pain erupted in her head. She howled, calling for her parents before she remembered that her parents were nowhere near her. Whimpering, she glanced up, thinking that it must have been a branch or hailstone that had fallen upon her head, and was confused when she saw no trees. Saw a clear night sky. Ringing in her ears disoriented her, and as she turned her ebony cranium, bright ambers searching in the darkness for a sign of what occurred… and then behind her she saw the blurred outline of a cremelo brute. She smiled briefly, plume wagging against the earth and she whimpered softly. “Please, sir. Something struck me and I am a bit disoriented, could you…” But then the brute lunged at her and with a sparking realization, she understood that it had been he who had struck her. Pain returned as teeth dug into her nape and she cried out in pain, her vocals high and sharp. “I’m sorry, am I in your land?!” Her words were pleading, yelled out in fact because of her agony. But his maw was full of her fur and skin, surely no vocals would escape from him. And then… he began to drag her. Slowly at first, but then his speed picked up as he surely realized how petite she was, even though she was nearly full grown. For the first few moments, she thrashed about but it only hurt him more, his daggers tearing holes in her flesh each time she moved, and eventually, she stilled her motions, a soft whimper escaping every few moments. “I’m sorry sir… for whatever I’ve done to offend you…” Words such as those occasionally flitted from her kissers, apologies and pleading to be released. “I’ll leave, I’m sorry, please let me go! I just want to go home…” |
