aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

The challenge, though there had been no fight, had drained him of his energy. Relief and grief both plagued him, as did a complete and total feeling of loneliness. The packlands were so empty, so devoid of life. Kalgalath could not blame his friends, now was a dreary time in the history of Aurora Borealis. Not only had Zig and Kalgalath split, she had been exiled. This seemed to be the pack of broken hearts. Blayre, without her true parents. Chenzii and Magic, both of which had mates who seemed to have left permanently. Hellene, which so much anger, and her pups who were both orphans. Kalgalath himself, who had been left by his first love and then betrayed by Zig... and Kong. Kong was ever the soldier, and had been loyal to many Alphas who seemed to demise during their service. And he had also been wounded by losing femmes he loved... thus it was that Kalgalath was not overly surprised that his oldest friend had disappeared.

What did surprise him though was that Kong had apparently returned. A fresh, albeit faint, scent had come across the king's nares but Kalgalath had not sought him out, thinking that the ebonero may perhaps have simply been returning to his den from a hunt. Kong had never been an overly social varg, one that was instead uncomfortable being the center of attention. When he was ready to talk, he would make himself seen.

Just as Kalgalath was preparing to turn his direction and return to his lonely, empty den, Kong's call came to him, and immediately Kalgalath felt him limbs moving, unconsciously making the immediate decision to go to his friend. First of, he had no desire to return to his grove, where there was only painful memories and an obvious imprint in the earth where Zig had once slept. But more than that, Kalgalath needed a friend. He needed someone to simply be with him, to take his mind off of his decision, to tell the brute that he had made the right decision.

Running through the trees, he feels as if he is running from what he did, running from the pack. With relief, he sees Kong at the border, outside of the border, pacing incessantly. Slowly, Kalgalath approaches him, orbs softly examining him. Coming to sit before him, haunches curling beneath him til his weight was fully on the earth, he waits. Since his decision to challenge Zig, silence had surround him like a plague, a constant reminder of his sin. But the silence that settled upon the pair, even with Kong's constant absence, was relaxed and comfortable in comparison. "Old friend, I have missed you."
