Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

weather should have been so simple to comprehend, even blind. however, sariel was constantly puzzled by the thing. and not for any wrong reason - she could not see the sky in order to tell when it was day or night, she could not see dark storm clouds or the bright sun. relying on the changes in the smell of the wind only got her so far and more than once had she been stuck in a den, waiting for rain that never came. sleep was even worse - she slept when she was tired and sometimes could be found wandering aimlessly into the long night, completely awake. despite the incidents she stumbled into (“i’m very sorry for falling into your den sir, i really didn’t mean to - no sir, i don’t want to hurt your children”) she often found herself more mentally refreshed on those nights.

that night was one of them. she’d apparently fallen asleep in the late morning hours in a shallow den she’d found on accident and when she woke up, she knew from the chilly temperature and the dew collecting underpaw that it was night. she’d set without a second thought and let her feet guide her - within reason, that is. sariel’s thoughts had set her pace, had her sprinting and then slowing to the point of almost complete stillness. eventually, she’d realized with a jolt as she slowed out of her gallop, that the sun was beginning to warm her spine. she turned her head towards what she assumed to be the horizon and was content enough to lower her haunches and let the rising sun warm her face. she wasn’t sure where she was, didn’t really care either way, and a low growl began to rumble in her stomach. she tried to remember the last time she’d eaten (was it four days ago or just two?) and decided to head towards the scent of water - her father had taught her how to fish when she was younger. (“just stand so still they come to nibble at your toes and then move as fast as you can to catch one.”)

it was at the time that she began to move that a long howl drew out. dark ears pricked up eagerly and a strong sense of excitement filled the woman. not often was she blessed with company of any kind (who would want to bound to a girl who couldn’t see?) and an open call was more than enough to pull her off her course. she turned and began to trot in the direction she’d originally heard the howl, nose low enough to catch the scent when it popped up but not low enough to hit on a rock too large to be in the way. she soon picked up a fresh scent of a young female and her tail began a low sweep of delight. she followed the girl’s scent until she hit the same path, broken stalks flattening under her eager paws. she broke out onto sand and realization hit her. she’d been here before, not more than a few days before. she moved closer towards the other wolf’s scent, not really sure if she was too close or too far, before she opened her maw to speak.

”hello miss,” her mellow alto bled into the soft morning as she took a few steps to her left and then sat down, sweeping her tail through the sand to wrap around loosely around her paws .
