With winter coming it was no surprise that large predators would begin to heads towards warmer weather where there would be plenty of prey nearby. Living amongst the flat fields came with its disadvantages, but like always she cleverly saw an advantage in each flaw. With the long grasses so low one would be easily spotted, and yet others could be spotted as well. It was much easier to spot out threats or enemies if they had nowhere to hide. She was sure that there were other threats that would come trespassing along her borders, but today she was not concerned about such a thing. Today her focus was more on the promising young wolf that aspired to be her Orthros. He was a yearling, but he was bold, and she would do what she could to help him. After all, that was what she wanted to do for those that lived in her pack, to endure and thrive. A few days ago she had come across a trespasser and she felt this particular creature would be a perfect sparring match for the young boy, that is, if he was still up for it. Which was why she was standing here in front of the den waiting for the boy to come out. It was only then when she saw his tawny crown come out from the mouth of his home did she speak.
“Cuirass, you and I are not going to spar against each other. You are going to spar against someone else.”
She was not one that cared for idle conversations. She had given Curiass a task and brought him a perfect sparring partner, whether that partner had any clue he would be doing such a thing. She would turn around and head north toward the section within their home that held the rocky hills. She would remain silent only allowing the sounds of their paw steps crushing the small grass below. Eventually they would make their way towards the place she wanted, her head craning upwards to look along the upper side of the hill. The autumn wind carried with it the scent of the beast that had been lurking along this particular spot. Her skull would turn to the side and a coy smirk appeared on her maw as she looked to the boy. She would look away from him as her nose pointed towards the light tawny creature that seemed to be lumbering between the rocks. Softly she spoke again almost with a spark of encouragement.
“If you are going to be a good fighter you should be able to study from your opponent, perhaps you will learn something from the mountain lion and use what you learned on others. You will not die under my watch, I can promise you that.”
