The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

but tabari, as if it matters the way a man falls

Just a few nights after they had parted ways with Al-Sarim of Calphir, the two brothers made their way to the Peak, in search of the one who pledged herself as a sister to them, and had left them with a promise of protection. Yahir, the younger, his coat pale and faded looking in the light of the moon, was tired. Tabari feared that he was growing sick in his heart. That was the only reason he had agreed to come. There was a bond between the mare Ysabellanazeka and his brother, and as much as this truth made his blood boil, and turned his heart cold with jealousy, he wwould always want happiness for his brother more than he wanted happiness for himself.

He drew close to Yahir, now, pressing his muzzle to the taller stallion’s shoulder. “Let us wait for the sun. As soon as it crests the horizon, I will walk with you up this mountain and find her.” At a small nod from Yahir, Tabari moved off, grazing a little farther down from his golden brother, where the grass wasn’t quite so thin. Even with the moonlight, it was hard to make out his figure in the darkness. Some would say this was merely because of his inky coat, but Tabari knew better. There was an inner darkness too, that masked him from sight. Eyes would always be drawn to Yahir first, because he was pure and innocent, things that Tabari never would be.

The relaxed posture of his brother was a comfort to him – lately Yahir hadn’t been sleeping well. Eager to let his brother rest while he could, Tabari briefly surveyed the dark incline above. Finding nothing suspicious, and satisfied that no harm would come to his beloved brother, Tabari moved a little further down the mountain, so that he’d be less likely to disturb the golden stallion with his small patches of white. There was a warm breeze that tugged at his black mane, one that reminded him of the desert they called Kumaii – a feeling that left him confused. Nostalgia and bitterness battled within him. He loved and hated that desert with all his heart. With a sigh, he cocked a hoof and settled into a comfortable position, chewing absentmindedly on a mouthful of grass. After a few moments, he found himself lowering his head, and before he knew it, Tabari found himself drifting into a light and troubled sleep.
