It is as I hoped. The pup takes off in fear beneath the sounds of my snapping jaws, her fear spiking my own to a miserable level. I fancy I can hear the large paws of Seline behind me, her breath on the tip of my tail, her teeth ready to drag me back to the den that had been my hell. Maybe I deserved it. It wasn't like I knew what to do with freedom, not until Zeus showed up in my life and gave me a reason to exist. That was merely a bit of chance on my part, finding him lying on that ridge. My jaws snap and I am so out of it that I don't even realize it is me so I bark in response, one of fright, and practically bowl the child over as my fore paws jolt Inanna along at a swifter rate.
Finally I spy him, his large figure at the edge of the water and lapping up it's contents in a lazy manner. My heart unclenches at the sight of him, my fear plummeting and adrenaline wearing off. He would protect the child and I was safe near him. I mean, just look at the size of his fangs! My paws slow of their own accord. Inanna races forward and into the depths of his paws, probably just as assured as I am that his large figure would protect her. My jaws part in pants as I stop a few feet from him while she pleads with him. Help, help, but I had helped her. There is sorrow in my gaze as my steel eyes drop down to the earth, eyeing an ant hill as if it had all the answers in the world.
