The Way of the Warrior

Hocus had not voiced a complaint when Aindreas had demanded originally that she stay with him and the pup til they at least survive without her milk. His hope was that she would somehow change - that she would grow attached to the pups and not want to leave them, or that she would grow attached to him. The idea of abandonment was a personal issue with Aindreas, seeing as his own mother had abandoned him. Yes, he had a family now with the pups... But he did not want them to grow up without a mother as he had... Or perhaps more accurately, he did not want them to grow up with the feeling of being abandoned as he had. For a long time he had questioned why his mother had left him... Why it was he, out of the three siblings, who she had chosen to leave.... Eventually he had discovered that there had been no rhyme or reason for it.
But to digress, hat time was passed. The pups had now gone a week without their mother's milk, and were surviving just fine on chewed hard food. Each day he wondered if that day would be there last as a family... When exactly would Hocus decide to pull the plug on their little charade? Today Aindreas had awoken to the sound of an irate call from her... Apparently today was that day.
Wearily, he followed the sound of her voice and found her, along with all the pups, in the middle of Blossom Field. One side was so cheery, while the other was depressing. It was the perfect place for all of this to occur, for the difference in the two sides almost represented the difference between Hocus and himself. As he approached, cold eyes met him. They're yours now. Slowly, Aindreas nodded, knowing that there was nothing he could do to make her stay or to persuade her to continue being a mother to her own flesh and blood. He could not understand her feelings or her decision, but it was clear that he could not change her mind. His arctics peered around and he gently nuzzled each of his pups. "Come on, little ones, let us go home." He started to walk away, but he heard a small voice.
Drizzt knew that their movie did not coddle them and was not as affectionate with them as their father was, but still he felt an affinity for her. She was, after all, his mother. And so the Ida of her being all alone was a lonely and unappealing prospect to the pup. "Mother... I would like to go with you. Everyone needs family, don't they?"
