aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

It was always ironic how easily the brothers forgave each other, all things considered. Without second thoughts the two raced away into the depths of Aurora and demons biting their tails. The little brutelings rushed onwards, both of them solely focused on finding a way out of their current predicament. Vlad took an early lead over his brother, but took earnest action at the little angel’s words. Their tumble through the small opening was quick and successful, both had escaped with no battle scars. The small tufts of fur that pulled from their pelts couldn’t have bothered them any less as she raced onwards to the next task. The River Styx – for they were leaving the depths of hell. The depths of their imaginations. Castiel cried out, his mind having frozen at the prospect of crossing the purgatory waters. Vladimir took charge, his arctic eyes swept over the river. Castiel, we are angels, and angels have wings! You mustn't touch the water or we shall never be allowed to leave the underworld, but we must try! Widened globes of honey and ice flecks watched as the mottle pup rushed the river’s edge and leapt forth. Alas the smaller brother was frozen with fear, he had never attempted to ‘fly’ such distances. Hurry, Castiel, follow me! A soft swish of leaves spooked the little angel and he roared to life, but truly only a small yip came forth from his maw.

Castiel turned to see the reach of death’s grip, only a stray branch, attempting to touch his flank. Wings fluttered to life and the lad took off at a sprint. His paws collected and in a single moment all his muscles flexed and contracted in sync, launching him into a graceful arc to the first stone. He was airborne in his mind’s eye, dodging and swerving to avoid the occasional straying souls that tried to drag him down. Castiel searched the bank for his brother and was relieved to see his heaving chest and small body resting upon the earthen bank, safe. The angel took a last leap of faith and tumbled down beside his brother, laughing and struggling to breathe. We are safe now, Cas. The Styx will keep demons in the underworld. Let’s keep exploring! Castiel jumped up promptly and tortled after his brother. The two rules that their parents were clear in his mind, but he did not truly know how far they had actually wandered. He was too small to know the enormity of the packlands, that knowledge would come within the next year or so of his life as he grew up. But the sudden ring of an unfamiliar voice had both the boys jumping out of their skins. Vladimir rebounded faster than his lighter toned companion, Castiel let's greet them! We can do what Father does! Castiel blinked and registered the words, but before he could sputter out a retort the small shadow of his brother was off and away.

The ashen pup lifted up off his paws and bounded after his brother trailing after the only scent he knew with certainty. Nares pressed to the ground as the boy labored to catch up with his brother, he was thoroughly exhausted, but small spurts of adrenaline kept him alive and moving. As he pulled into view he saw the ridiculous stance his brother had decided to take, and choked back a snorting laugh as he padded up to his side. Castiel curled his tail of his spine but remained in a more neutral stance with a loose smile displayed on his façade. He waited for his brother to finish up his introduction before piping up, And I’m Castiel, brother to Vladimir and the second Prince of Aurora Borealis. What brings you to our borders? Cas was naturally more soft spoken than his brother, but his voice still held an unwavering note of confidence. He looked to both the females, noticing their semblance. Are you two related? It was a harmless but decently obvious question, but were they cousins? Sister? Mother and daughter? Cas just wanted to know for the sake of knowing, he had never seen wolves with their coat coloring. It was so bright under the afternoon light that it almost blinded him to look upon their coats so he settled on looking in their orbs. The littler of the two seemed to be just about their age and Castiel smiled brightly at her. Maybe they could play together! Castiel wanted to ask her to play, but thought better of it. This was a serious situation.
