you hear it on the breeze...
Pine did not seem to enjoy being spoken down to by the adult she had run into. Forest gaze narrowed at her and the fur along her neck continued to stand on end. Instinctively she stayed puffed up. She would not back down from a challenge, even facing a larger wolf, even if she would lose. Her paws took a stance to brace for a fight, or to flee, whichever hit her at the time. It was not until Grimorie’s tail wagged at her that Pine took a steadying breath and sat, calmed, and listened as attentively as she could. That being said, every couple of words Pine’s attention drifted to something that caught her eye before snapping back to the dark beast.
Senses? The little girl tilted her head.Senses? Your face! She answered innocently, marginally helpfully. Her answer was not completely off. A little of the training Big Wolf had given her involved looking, smelling, and listening. As if to prove her point, she lifted her black nose into the air and inhaled. Velvety ears, followed by glittering eyes, shifted to a real trail. She got to her paws again, tail swaying behind her. A high pitched soft whine chorused through her throat. Padding forward, she nipped excitedly at Grimorie’s chin, her previous annoyance drifting away to be forgotten. What can we chase that’s worthwhile? Will you show me?
Scampering back away she twisted on her paws. Maybe this would be her chance! She would learn how to hunt, how to actually catch something and prove to herself, and her pack, that she was worthy of the titles she sought. Standing tall only her back end moved with her tail’s motions. She was ready! Even if this woman was not going to help her.
