aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Life always had its ups and downs, and that was not news to the female. After her romantic affairs with Chiron, and his multiple disappearances, she knew that life was not fair and never was meant to be. It was something that liked to tease and show you a good time before tearing it all from under you. Showing you that pain and hurt was more real than anything. After one terrible thing happened then there was often a small glimmer of hope, a small shining of light that made you feel warm again and that all was right in the world. But of course this could never last and then once more the darkness would come. Betrayal, abandonment, emptiness, and death. They had all affected the female. Her mate left her, not once but twice. Her adopted daughter had died. Her adopted son had left. Her best friend had left. It seemed that everything was falling apart. Without the ones she loved what was the point? The darkness seemed to have come to consume her once more, swallowing her whole and threatening to never let go. Just as she felt that nothing could ever work again, that small beacon of hope came through again. A call rang through the trees, one that she would recognize anywhere. The vocals of Kalgalath brought a smile to her kissers, something Chenzii didn’t think she would do again.

The snow white femme had been consumed with her own life recently, not doing all of her pack duties. She was so focused on becoming a healer as good as her mother that she had not gone out to do any border patrols or greet any newcomers in a long time. But her herb garden was growing nicely. Now that it was summer time the plants had grown and she was building up a good stock in her den, just as Hellene had taught her. Khaleesi made sure to keep everything neat and organized so she would know exactly where things were in an emergency. She was currently sorting out so poppy to store in her den when she heard a howl ring through the trees. Kalgalath was calling a pack meeting. A wide smile appeared on the female. She was feeling more and more like her old self with each day. She was no longer depressed as she had been for so long, but had found a way to come to terms with all that had happened in the last few months. She had taken it all as a lesson for how the world really works, and she needed to learn from it in order to succeed and be the healer that she knew she was destined to be. Khaleesi stood up from the dirt, shaking out her pelt and licking some dried dirt off her paw.

The femme needed to take a quick dip in the nearby stream to be presentable for the pack meeting, so she quickly ran over, leaping into the water as if she was a pup again. As she paddled through the water, letting it clean her pelt and make it as white as pure snow again, she heard a whimper from the bushes. Audettes swiveled to catch the sound and she swam towards the bank. She stepped back onto land, taking a quick moment to shake out the water from her pelt. Luckily it had thinned for the summer and would not take long to dry. Bright green orbs spotted the being that had made the sound and she recognized the form to be Tarly. He had grown since she had last seen him, but his form was still plump and rounded though he was no longer a pup. Khaleesi’s heart went out to the male, remembering how frightened her brother Destan had been of the world and how long it had taken for him to trust her. The femme approached slowly, but also made plenty of noise so he would know she was coming. The younger male was crying, and the fae let out a whine, unsure of what to do but knowing she needed to do something. ”Tarly? It’s Khaleesi. Is it okay if I come over?” She did not want to approach him if he did not want her to.

The uniquely marked male jumped at her approach, light grey orbs looking to her in panic. She paused her steps, not wanting to frighten him more, but he calmed when he saw that he knew her. “It…it’s okay. I’m com…coming out.” The male then pushed through the brush, head and tail hanging low. The femme knew that his mother had left the pack and that he must be devastated. She didn’t want to bring up such a sore subject, and thought that a distraction might help him better. ”Would you like to travel to the pack meeting together?” The male seemed confused, maybe he had not heard Kalgalath’s call, but he shrugged before nodding slightly. She gave him a quick smile before leading the way.

As Chenzii’s midnight colored pelt reached the clearing for the pack meeting she saw that she was one of the first to arrive. One of Kal’s offspring was also there, and she gave him a warm smile as she approached his father. Her yellow orbs met his artic blue ones, and she knew that he was hurting as much as she was at the loss of one of their closest friends. A sadness came over her features that she would only show around Kal. Her black pelt pressed into his silver one, leaning on him not only for her own support but to show that she was here to support him as well. He may be the alpha, but he still needed friends to help him through hard times. She whispered words of comfort, having a quick private moment with him before more vargs joined. A whine escaped her before she pulled away, turning her head towards the trees where two more wolves were entering. Chenzii stepped back, composing herself instantly and sitting a few feet away, smiling to Khaleesi and Tarly as they entered.

Khaleesi was back to her old self, coming in with a bounce in her step and a grin on her features. ”Hello Kalgalath, Chenzii, Vladimir!” She greeted them all, clearly not wanting to leave anyone out. The younger femme sat down not far away, most likely waiting for her mother to come. Tarly trailed behind her, tail limp behind him and his head down, not looking to anyone. When his head rose a bit and saw Kal, he seemed to almost cower. But the alpha had no cruel bones in his body, but it seemed that the adolescent was afraid of many things, and not just the older male. Tarly’s black striped form planted behind Khaleesi, sitting down behind her, not saying a word to anyone as they all waited for the rest to join.

"We were never meant to last," She whispers.
