aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

“Shh!” Vlad hushed Sera’s outcry to Cas. She looked back, noting the demons by the lake, attempting to pick up their scents. The girl’s face morphed into an apologetic expression as the two reached the cave their playmate had gone down. She bit her lip uneasily, her fear of the darkness bubbling up to the surface. The prince beside her must have picked up on her hesitation for he rubbed against her side, nuzzling her shoulder. When he spoke, his words were not that of how much of wimp she was, as she had thought, but ones that truly surprised her. “Castiel will be fine, and you will too.” Sera’s emeralds turned to look at him. “I’ll always protect you, Seraphina, I promise… err.. I mean Armaita. In you go. I’ll be right behind you.” Vlad nudged her gently and the princess shrugged. What did she have to lose? She plunged into the cave, the bruteling not but a few steps behind.

Sera didn’t like it here. Not one bit. She could hardly see in front of her, only just making out faint silhouettes, much less actual detail. Who knew what was lurking in the dark, just waiting for some unsuspecting pup to walk by? Her heartbeat quickened, ears flat to her crown as she slowly stepped forward. The firebird called out to her companions, her voice echoing in the cavernous grotto. She knew that she shouldn’t be so loud or else the demons might hear, but she was scared. For a long moment only the sound of water hitting puddles could be heard. Then, from behind her, “I’m here…” The girl jumped a bit, startled though she had been expecting a reply. Seraphina stayed stalk still, allowing Vladimir to find her in the darkness. His iron grey bodice skimmed her, tail wrapping around hers. “We should stay together. If we lose our sense of direction we will enter in too deep and might get lost.” Sera nodded mutely, speechless for once. He was being… nice? The princess hadn’t thought he could be. Her initial impression of him - arrogant and a right, mean stick in the mud- had been wrong. Gravely, it seemed. Vladimir truly was gentle and he’d meant what he said about protecting her. The ethiopianess leaned against him, a silent thanks.

The prince called - or rather, whispered - for his brother who had yet to reappear after he’d plunged into the cave. Sera kept her visionaries focused on the darkness in front of them, squinting in an attempt to make out any possible Cas. She hoped he was alright and hadn’t gotten lost. “I’m sorry I thought you were a spy.” Vlad whispered into her little aud. “Can we be friends forever? You’re pretty cool… For a girl.” Seraphina smiled softly, bumping Vlad’s shoulder. She lifted her maw to his ear, whispering as he had so that only he would hear. “And I’m sorry I thought you were mean. Of course we can be friends forever. You’ll be my first one. After all, you’re pretty cool too Vladimir.”

A soft voice came from the gloom ahead, “I’m here Vlad.” Sera let out a soft sigh of relief that Cas was ok. She and Vlad didn’t move an inch, allowing Castiel to find his way to them. Slowly, a dark figure that looked about his shape and size approached them. It muttered something the princess couldn’t quite make out before she felt a slight push on her chest. Seraphina took a step back and Castiel’s face popped up in front of her. He was still hard to see, but it was definitely him! “I’m glad you found us Cas.” She said, wagging (and moving Vlad’s tail along with hers). “So, uh, now that I’ve found you guys, let’s stick together. Okay?” The little firebird nodded vigorously. She absolutely agreed. “Come link your tail around ours. That way we’ll stick together for sure.” With the company of her two friends, her two best friends, Sera felt much better. She was uncomfortable still, but at least she wasn’t as scared anymore. “I’m not leading this little gravy train through the dark… so what is the plan from here?”

Yeah, what was the plan from here? They’d presumably escaped the demons (or had they?) so what now was the end game? “This was your idea so you can be the leader.” Sera turned to Vlad. He was the most suited anyway. “Where do we go from here?”
