Glorall

Disaster has struck!
Flooding from the north has taken its toll on Glorall. The large tides combined with the increase in water draining from the Ruieze River has flooded the lower regions of the pack. The sandy soil, compounded with so much water, has toppled a lot of trees. Traveling is difficult even when the water is shallower, with the sandy soil below being difficult to find traction on. The daily tides seem to keep the level of flooding fairly consistent, too.

During the low tide, wolves may be able to move around the higher dunes (with some difficulty) but during high tide, the pack is almost impossible to safely navigate. Swimming is possible, but the risk of currants and surges from either the ocean or the river are very real. The island off of the coast of Glorall is untouched by either issue, although it is incredibly difficult to find your way there without being an adept swimmer with plenty of good luck!

Her gaze still had that distant look to it, as if she was savoring something in her mind. He was aching to join her and see what could bring such a beautiful smile to those lips but alas, it seemed she didn't want to share it just yet. Her only answer was that she was just thinking and he snorted softly, nuding her shoulder once more playfully before he let it drop. He wouldn't push but he hoped that some day, he would earn her trust enough for her to open up to him about anything, whether dreams, thoughts, or just ideas. He wanted to know them all if only to get that much closer to knowing her. She took him up on his offer, telling him that no one would get close to him and he snickered when she called him sensitive. His face pretended to be insulted for a moment.

"OUCH, THAT ACTUALLY HURT MY FEELINGS. IF YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE PROTECTING ME, DOESN'T THAT INCLUDE PROTECTION FROM YOURSELF?"

He raised a brow at her teasingly, his lips tugging into the shadow of a smirk. He was aware that she totally caught him staring when he was looking at her but he found that he didn't really care like he would have any other time. He wanted her to know that he admired everything about her. It suddenly didn't seem like it needed to be a secret so much anymore. She was the picture of health. It seemed being in Glorall had done her well. Her fur was glossy and shone in the sun and her eyes glistened brightly as any diamond. She was well fed and fit and he loved to appreciate it all. She matched her pace to his as they moved down the beach and he could tell she had a destination in mind. She was moving with purpose so he gave her just enough of a lead to know where to turn but at the same time, he wanted to be close to her so he never let her get too much of a lead. Then she started to open up to him and he found his ears braced forward, wanting to catch every syllable. He strained to hear her story and his lips formed a scowl when she told him that she had been kidnapped as a pup. Did no one try to find her? Were her parents concerned at all? He was cursing himself for not being around more. He should have protected her.

His eyes softened.

"I'M SORRY. THAT MUST HAVE TRAUMATIZED YOU."

He listened as she told him that she had followed storms and found other wolves. He was happy that she had met a friend. The name Pine sounded familiar. Isn't that the name of the new alpha of Iromar? He wondered if they were the same wolf or similar. But then she was bringing up someone named Rufio and the way she said the name made him tense up some and he didn't know why. That is, until she pointed out that he was in fact her imprint. His gaze looked away for a minute hoping that she wouldn't see the turmoil and envy in his eyes, that she wouldn't see the jealousy that another could know her so well with just one look and he didn't have to know her life story or watch her grow up to do that. It was made easier by Fate. He had that gift now too with Talien, but she wasn't Inanna, no matter how much he wished she could be. She was beautiful and witty and smart, yes, but she wasn't his best friend and she wasn't the girl he was falling hopelessly for. She was just his soul mate.

She was asking him now and he glanced at her, blinking at first in puzzlement. Was she asking for his story or whether he had found his imprint? He twinged a bit at the thought before speaking.

"ITS NOT SO GRAND A STORY, I PROMISE. I WANTED TO OVERCOME MY APPREHENSION AROUND THE RIVER AFTER ALMOST DROWNING IN IT WHILE RACING SAMIA. I WANTED TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM AND FACE MY FEARS SO I WENT BACK TO THE PLACE WHERE I FELL IN AND WITHOUT THINKING, I JUMPED RIGHT BACK IN. WELL THIS TIME WITH NO ONE THERE TO PULL ME OUT, I WAS DRAGGED DOWN THE RIVER AND OUT OF GLORALL. I FOUGHT THE CURRENT AS LONG AS I COULD BEFORE I WENT UNDER AND COULDN'T CATCH MY BREATH. I BLACKED OUT AND THOUGHT I WAS ALL BUT LOST. WHEN I CAME TO, I WAS LYING ON THE BANKS OF THE RIVER IN A LAND I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE. I WAS SOAKED AND SHIVERING AND FIGURED I WOULD BE DEAD SOON FROM COLD IF I DIDN'T FIND SHELTER SO I CURLED UP UNDER A ROCK AND SLEPT. IT WAS A FITFUL SLEEP WITH NIGHTMARES AND I WOKE UP SHIVERING A LOT BUT FINALLY THE MORNING CAME AND WITH IT, THE SUN THANKFULLY. I PARADED AROUND IN IT, TRYING TO DRY MY COAT AND DRINKING UP THE WARMTH IT HAD TO OFFER. THEN I TRIED HOWLING FOR MY PARENTS, SAMIA, ANYONE, BUT THERE WERE NO REPLIES. I WAS ALONE.

He was following her steps the whole time he spoke, casting a glance at her to see how she was reacting to his tale as they made it to the rocks. He was careful where he stopped, watching her movements so he could mimic them and not slip on the rocks. He watched the waves roll in, wondering for a moment if she was about to jump right into them but instead she waited for a break in the waves before she ducked down into the rocks and out of sight. For a moment, he feared he had lost her, his eyes widening. But then he saw the opening that you couldn't see unless you were looking for it. He scowled thoughtfully and waited for another break in the waves and then he ducked into the hole before he could re-think. Once inside, he had to blink a few times to get used to the dim lighting but then he gasped in awe of the beauty around him. She had truly made this her home, complete with shells and other collectibles and he felt honored, knowing that she probably didn't bring a lot of wolves here at all. When he looked at her and saw that little grin on her face, he felt his chest tighten and his lips formed an answering grin as he looked around with even more appreciation in the beauty if only because he wanted to see it through her eyes.

"NICE DIGS, INANNA. YOU SURE KNOW HOW TO MAKE A PLACE FEEL LIKE HOME."

He was being genuine in his compliments this time, giving her a smile before he moved forward to take a seat and turn back to her.

"AS FOR THE REST OF MY STORY. I WANDERED AROUND FOR A WHILE, PROBABLY JUST DAYS BUT IT FELT LIKE WEEKS. A LONER CALLED DEJA FOUND ME AND CARED FOR ME TILL MY FIRST YEAR HIT. SHE TOLD ME TO GO BACK TO MY HOME NOW THAT I WAS BIG ENOUGH AND I TRIED. I REALLY TRIED. I JUST COULDN'T PICK UP A SCENT. I EVEN THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH ME, THAT I'D LOST MY SENSES IN THAT DAMN RIVER. I WENT BACK TO THE RIVER AND STARTED TO FOLLOW IT BACK UP, TRYING TO TRACK MY STEPS BUT THERE WERE PLACES WHERE IT FORKED OFF AND WENT IN OTHER DIRECTIONS AND I FELT I WAS ONLY GETTING MYSELF MORE LOST. I THOUGHT OF EVERYONE OFTEN. SAMIA, MY FAMILY, WONDERING IF THEY SEARCHED FOR ME. WONDERING IF THE PACK WORRIED ABOUT ME. I THOUGHT OF YOU OFTEN, INANNA. I WONDERED IF YOU WOULD EVER FIGURE OUT I TOOK THAT FEATHER."

He smirked a little, his shoulder moving as if to remind her where it was this whole time.

"LONG STORY SHORT, I WANDERED AROUND UNTIL I MADE MY WAY BACK TO MOLADIAN, ONLY FOUR YEARS LATER. I HAD MY SHARE OF ADVENTURES BUT NOTHING COMPARED TO COMING HOME. I DIDN'T FIND MY IMPRINT TILL JUST DAYS AGO IN RUIEZE FIELDS. THERE WAS A GATHERING AND A GIRL WHO HAD CALLED TO EVERYONE. HER NAME IS TALIEN. I LOOKED AT HER AND JUST....KNEW HER. I'VE FELT OUR CONNECTION EVER SINCE. SHE'S A LONER, I THINK, FRIENDLY ENOUGH. I JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT. I WANT TO BE THERE FOR HER BUT I CAN'T JUST GIVE UP EVERYTHING ELSE."

I can't just give up you, he wanted to say, but he bit his tongue on that one, not sure how she'd react. His eyes gazed into hers for a moment, trying to read her expression before he sighed and laid down on the sand.

"SO...THIS RUFIO FELLOW. IS HE CHARMING? WITTY? SMART? IS HE AS HANDSOME AS YOURS TRULY?"

Thor gave her that wolfish grin, his brows waggling at her playfully. In his heart, he was dreading that she'd say yes to all of the above, that this Rufio would have everything he doesn't and more. That he could offer her the world, that there was no competition. He was dreading that it was all too little too late and that he'd never be more than the best friend.
