Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

She wasn't the only one wishing she could communicate with him better, even just a few words, enough to give him a better idea of what was going on inside her pretty little head. He had always thought he was rather good at communicating with anyone, no matter what, and yet still he felt limited. Maybe if he could pick up the handy skill of reading minds, he could do anything. He had always found friends who had trouble communicating. Tuari was the first and then Wren, another mute. Now he had Alistair, a deaf wolf that was his partner in solving a great crime from years ago. The crime of poisoning his brother. He had conversation with them but when it came to getting this close to someone, you just got to a point where you wanted them to be able to open their mind to you, tell you whatever. And he was sure it was frustrating for her that she couldn't tell him everything, no matter what.

When leaves went in her face, she sneezed but he was worried. He didn't want to get dirt in her eyes or something. He would never forgive himself if she ended up scratching her eye and went blind or something. She was trying to brush it off though, her mouth moving in what looked like laughter even though there wasn't a sound and thens he batted her paw at him. He chuckled and squirmed away from it, rolling over on his back and pawing right back at her upside down.

"Just checking."

He assured her. He could tell she was restless about something and with the onset of winter, it only seemed to get worse. She often looked at him in a different way than usual, a way that made his skin feel like it was burning and urges built up that he'd never really thought about before. Sure he's always had instincts in certain seasons but since he'd never been close to a female, it didn't bother him as much. He learned to avoid females around that time and just go about his business. But now that he was back and being social, it was getting a lot harder, especially around the two important girls in his life. He was attracted to Talien from day one and his friendship with Tuari, well, it had morphed at some point at the onslaught of winter and he wasn't sure how or why. She was an attentive listener as always and he loved that about her. He could see the understanding in her eyes when he told her that he'd never planned on getting close to anyone because of his profession. He didn't want any of the monsters he hunted to know that he could be hurt too.

He knew the mind games his targets liked to play. If they found out about him hunting them, they would find a weakness and exploit it. No one would be safe here. His friends, his family. Certainly not anyone he was romantic with. He didn't want that bulls-eye on anyone he cared about. He somehow felt that he could open up to Tuari about his feelings, even about Talien. He knew if she cared about him like he was beginning to think she did, then she might be hurt by this news, but he'd rather be open now than have her find out later on down the road when things might be even more complicated. He didn't want to lead anyone on. He didn't want to be THAT guy, the one who plays more than one female at a time and keeps them all hooked but never makes a decision and settles down. He didn't want that kind of life. He wanted to be the wolf his father had raised. He wanted to be a one woman kind of wolf, make one wolf happy for the rest of his life, just like Coza and Moth.

Their love was legend. He couldn't have the imprint love like they did but maybe, just maybe, he could have something close. Tuari had been his friend since childhood but would she still be his friend if he didn't choose her? He didn't want to lose her in any way but he knew that pain would come with rejection and he would never forgive himself if he didn't be a man and make that choice before things got any more twisted. He knew she was about to nuzzle him and maybe that's what made him panic into bringing up Talien. Tuari deserved to know. She recoiled upon hearing the news just as he knew she would so he wasn't surprised but even then he couldn't prepare himself for the inner pain he felt to know that he had already started hurting someone, his best friend. She slowly reached forward after he spoke and touched her nose to his. He was holding his breath without even knowing it and he only let it out after she had pulled away.

He knew what she was trying to say. He always had a way of knowing without hearing her speak. It's like sometimes her emotions were so strong that she could speak to him with her eyes, with her heart. He knew that he was right, that she was falling for him and the damage was already done. She didn't know what to tell him. She wouldn't even if she did. She would never ask him to drop everything for her just as he never would for her. When her eyes pulled away, he felt his heart breaking a little because he knew she was hurting and there was nothing he could about it because he had caused this. She touched him again and he felt her determination. She wanted him to know for sure how she felt. It was only crushing his heart more. He wondered how she felt about Talien. Was she happy for him or did she only feel pain? Was she angry at him? She had every right to be. He should have seen the signs earlier. He should have stopped it before it ever got this far.

He only blamed himself. When she rolled from her back to her stomach, he glanced over, wondering if she was about to bolt. His jaw clenched and he slowly rolled and stood up. His eyes met hers and his ears drooped, his head low and his tail tucked.

"Tuari....I'm so sorry. I never meant to hurt you. I never meant to....I'm sorry."

It was all he could think of to say. And then because he couldn't stand to see her hurting anymore, he suddenly bolted, running headlong into the forest. He didn't glance back because he knew if he did, he would see her pain and he would want to go running back. He would want to comfort her and he didn't want to send any more mixed signals. He didn't want to hurt anymore, not these wolves. Not the ones he cared about. He had never felt more like a failure.

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
