FIRE BURNS WHERE IT FALLS

Maslakhat! His name rang out across the beach from the lips of the cream-colored Akhal-Teke mare he hadn’t seen in some time. He turned and watched her trot over with a sideways smile on his face. Keyik was here, of all places. How fortunate.

“Long enough,” he replied with a hint of playfulness in his voice. “It’s good to see you again Keyik, I have missed your pretty face.” He took a few steps toward her and touched his muzzle to her cheek, exhaling gently and remembering the fondness he had for her.

“I assume Wolpertinger is rooting around somewhere as well,” he continued, raising his head and having a look in the immediate vicinity. Her half sister hardly enjoyed Maslakhat’s presence much, and he imagined that hadn’t changed. Especially since he had sired Nyazik, Wolpertinger’s disapproval had surely only gotten worse instead of better. In truth, he wasn’t too concerned about her—he had dealt with far worse than a jealous sibling in his travels. She must have served some purpose for Keyik however, otherwise he imagined she wouldn’t have lasted long.

“Regardless, I’m glad you’re here. Walk with me, let’s catch up,” he finished and started his casual stroll along the beach once again.
