This river is famously known for its fish!

He had no idea why he was here. It was becoming a trend. It seemed that there was no reasoning in any of his decisions these days, as he aimlessly wandered from land to land. His purposeless wanderings had, admittedly, gotten Maverick in quite a bit of trouble in the past few days, weeks, months, however long it had been since... /it/ happened. Keeping track of time was a task the wolf just simply could not deem worthy of his brain power. So, instead, he focused his energy on the rhythmic motion of one paw in front of the other, counting his steps to keep his mind from drifting to memories he had hoped he would soon forget. One, two, three, four, one two three four, one, two, three, four, and on and on, eyes fixed somewhere in the distance but not really on anywhere specific. His pace was not quite leisurely but then again, it was not quite quick either. Just fast enough to make the world blur slightly around him. He didn't want to stop, he didn't want to give his mind a chance to catch up. Not yet. He wasn't ready.

Though he was right smack in the middle of teenage-hood, Mav had the appearance of a full grown brute. He was tall in stature and held himself in a way expected of an elder, slightly hunched, head hung low. His sandy brown pelt had gone an ash grey, his once bright green eyes now a dull hazel, always covered with a glazed film, only springing to life when he had an 'episode'. His white paws and muzzle were brown with mud along with his belly, the aftermath of the heavy rains he had encountered a few days back, when he had gone as far as he could before his legs buckled beneath him, landing him a spot in the mud for the night.

One, two, three, four–/how could you have let this happen?/ One, two, three, four–/what are you still doing here?/ One, two, three, four–/you should be ashamed of yourself/ One, two, three––SPLASH–– Maverick yelped in shock as his body hit the freezing water. His cry was quickly cut short as the roaring current swept his legs from under him, pulling the boy underwater. He began to thrash around, adrenaline pumping through his veins. He had never thought to learn how to swim prior to this point in time because previously, he hadn't thought it was that important. For obvious reasons, his views on swimming had now shifted and he felt instant regret as his body began tumbling through the water, dragged down stream like a rad doll. His heart was pounding as he tried to figure out what to do. Amid the panic and fear, a small part of his brain was thrilled. Finally, he felt alive, as though he were more than just a /thing/ floating around this world. He continued his fight to breathe and eventually his thrashing about proved helpful, his hind paws found a rock at the bottom of the river and he was able to kick himself towards the edge of land. He clutched onto the ground with his nails, digging in as firmly as he could, and slowly pulled himself from the water, throwing his body onto the ground. He laid there, sputtering and coughing up water, his body too numb and bruised to do much more.
