Adventure. Ernesto had been searching for it since his hooves had first hit the ground, or that was what his mother had always said at least. She had never liked his propensity for getting into trouble, seemingly always able to find it or create it himself if none was to be found, but he could hardly remember a time that he had stood still and enjoyed it. It was this wandering, this searching for excitement, which had drawn him to these islands – not specifically these islands, of course, but they had been the first thing he had come across on his journey from the mainland. His dirty silver tresses were still wet as he wandered into the Common, a wide, open land where the grasses were well-shorn from eating and the ground well-worn from many horses passing through. He could even see several in the distance, further away from the shore where he had washed up, grazing alone or talking together. The presence of so many other horses in one place was exciting and interesting enough for Ernesto to make his decision to stay right there and then. Where he had lived before the herds had took great care to put distance between them, and even the group of bachelors he had lived with for a time, who ran free and wild wherever they pleased, rarely managed to run into anyone else – although this was partly down to most everyone else wanting to avoid them and their raucous idea of socialisation. Therefore, all these strangers here, fit for the talking to, seemed too good of an opportunity to waste. With an excited snort he shook himself as dry as he could manage, and took off with a spring in his step, trotting proudly towards the horses in the distance, his head and tail high, though the damp hair trailed limply behind him. “Hey! Yoo-hoo!” he called out, just about desperate to get somebody’s attention. ernesto
