The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

A storm was brewing along the southern coast of Moladion, winds building in strength as they came up from the sea and down from the north. As the two fronts collided, they began to circle, and the sky turned a sickening shade of green. It seemed that the gale that had come up from the sea was the stronger of the two forces, pushing the storm further inland as it spiraled and began to form a cyclone that stretched towards the surface of the earth. The strengthening winds nearly blew Raum off her feet as she jogged back towards the cover of the grotto from her most recent hunt. She paused, glancing up at the sky, momentarily fascinated by the funnel that threatened to wreak havoc on the southern realm of Moladion. She lingered only a second, though, before turning to dip through a camouflaged entrance into the network of underground caves that she called home.

Raum was little more than a shadow to the other inhabitants of Moladion. Those who did see her often found themselves dead shortly thereafter, with her beautiful head buried in their abdomen. Ever since she was a yearling, the woman had lived a life of solitude. Though she had come close to bonding with others over the years, it had always been fleeting, and once more she would find herself alone. The friends she kept were corpses, pieces and parts of the meals that she so expertly dispatched - she was built for the kill. Tall, muscular, and ravishingly gorgeous in all her power. Perfection, in her own eyes; that which she had never found in another.

Practically forgetting about the tornado that had chased her back down into the grotto as soon as she was safe from its clutches, she trotted through the familiar tunnels. Between her jaws was the haunch of a yearling wolf whom she had dispatched that morning. Her stomach swelled slightly with fullness, having gorged herself on the meal before taking the leftovers up in her grasp to return home with. Her black as night coat gleamed slightly, still a bit damp from rolling in her kill.

Reaching the cavern that she had marked out as her own, she dropped the haunch along the outside wall and circled back to the entrance. Light filtered in through a fissure in the ceiling, and particles of dirt shifted and fell down into the cave from it, surely blown down by the storm that rushed by above ground. Lifting her snout, Raum sniffed along the entrance to her cavern, checking to see if anyone had trespassed into her sanctum while she was gone. She squatted to pee and freshen her scent markings, then nosed one of the bones laying on a shelf of rock at the entrance, pushing it back into place. Turning back into the cave, rather than return to the fresh haunch of meat, she pranced giddily over to her collection. A collection of tokens, parts and pieces of her kills that she'd brought back here. "Hhhhmmmmmmmm!" she crooned. Nosing past a tiny canine skull - a puppy from last spring - she grabbed hold of an old white ear, marred and dirtied with mud and dried blood.

With a flick of her head, she tossed the ear up above her and out into the center of the cavern, before leaping after it in a game of solitary play that she'd loved ever since the abandonment that she now barely recalled.
