A Dream of You & Me [Athene] - " />

Romance is in the air...this is probably the most beautiful and scenic place in Blossom Forest. For the athletic and determined to come with their mates, for time away from pups. Only adults may come here; some of the ledges are too far apart for teens or pups to cross and some too high to scale.

All that glitters is gold; don't believe what you've been told.

Restlessness had consumed her limbs over those fleeting winter days, wishing she could outrun it’s bitter finger tips. Slowly spring had melted across the land, and with it came change that was welcomed and also dreaded. A soft warmth had brought back color and beauty out of that cold death, but as the flowers sprouted from the earthen soil, so too did the protrusions on her crown. At first, there had been grunts of pain with movement, but eventually that growing pain dimmed and the final product curled out magnificently from her cranium. A crown of antlers, mark of the cervidae. Although magic did not imbue her like the tempests and vampires that inhabited Blossom Forest, she knew that she had been touched. Blessed. Though Sabelle had yet to find a purpose for these bone-like structures, she still found herself learning to not get caught on the undergrowth. Her ability to be stealthy seemed completely blown, leaving her unable to hunt, but she had found that if her scent was masked and she left only her rack visible, the true cervidae would wander close by without noticing her figure. She had caught a small young fawn using this tactic, which she managed to feed from for most of this spring. She had only recently finished it off, as well as the stash of berries she had gathered, sufficing her ‘sweet tooth’. And now she was going to have to use her hunting skills on smaller prey, a skill which she was still honing since the emergence of her antlers.

Today seemed as good a day as any.

At the sign of first light, Sabelle had emerged from her dugout den. Shaking off the remnants of sleep the fogged her mind, the crème agouti lady broke into a light jog. Sabelle could feel the slow release of the lactic acid that had built up in her muscles, and after a few minutes she knew that her limbs were properly warmed up. She broke into a lope, that slowly gathered speed as she raced with grace through the undergrowth dodging, leaning, and ducking as needed. The beat in her chest was quick paced, but she still felt comfortable with her pace. She broke into a gallop, the woodlands blurring into a palette of earthen tones and verdant hues. A fallen log suddenly broke the scenery and Sabelle leapt. Her hind legs pressed down with immense pressure, building until she released it feeling all of her paws leave the ground. Time seemed to slow as she watched the log pass below her and the ground came rushing back to her. Her forelimbs outstretched to touch that soft soil. She felt the impact in her joints as she landed, but in proper technique it was not painful. Only she forgot to account for her antlers weight and the forward motion that they carried.

Her forepaws got stuck in the mud as she tried desperately to pick them up, only she ended up dragging them. And her nose went down into the dirt, her limbs buckled and she skidded across the dirt on her chest, before she rolled to her side. Muddied sides heaved with fast breaths and a soft grunt left rosy lips. I still need to work on my landings. Sabelle mumbled to herself, before she picked her bodice up off the ground, shaking the loose dirt. There were still splotchy stains of clay and mud in her usually pallid fur, so she headed back to where she had come from. There was a creek near her den, where she rinsed off and bathed. Along the way she caught scent of a plump hare, too fat for its own good. Sabelle had not put much effort into the kill, but was thankful the creature had been to slow to run from her. She was bruised from her failed landing earlier, and it was better that she got to the water sooner rather than later. The cool water would soothe the aching as she ate her late breakfast.

Sabelle made good time back to the creek, and she plopped herself down into the gentle flow. It’s waves washed up against her chest and almost flowed over her shoulders, and a soft sigh of relief left her lips. Thankful to finally be resting, Sabelle tore into her breakfast, finishing it off quickly. The rumbling of her stomach had quieted and she let herself drift into a light slumber, or so she thought…

Soft taupe lids fluttered open, only to be re-immersed into that darkness. Night had fallen hours ago, meaning Sabelle had slept away the day. Begrudgingly the ex-Queen rose up, shaking out the watery remnants from her pelt. It was then that she heard the call, for her. The voice was as recognizable as ever, and a soft smile broke across the adolescent femmes lips. Her limbs broke into a lope, carrying her quickly. Muscles rippled underneath her tautly pulled pelt all those months of training truly beginning to show on her limber structure. Her luscious coat dried fully as the wind pulled through it, leaving it combed and fluffed. It was within the hour that Sabelle finally tracked down her mother’s scent and found her pallid fur, starkly contrasted against the evergreen darkness. Sabelle pushed aside the undergrowth, before emerging before Athene. You’ve returned. What brought you back here? Her brows furrowed, confused, but reservedly happy to see those familiar honey pools.

People lie, people love, people go, but beauty lies in every soul.
