He didn't know what he expected to find when he dove into the waves once more and headed for the Crossing. He was still restless, still waiting to see how things unfolded. Melisma should be ready soon to return home with Phoebe and then his herd would be whole again. And yet, it still felt strangely incomplete. The Vanner stallion felt there was more he could, more mares he could help. The Desert had turned into the perfect sanctuary for mares who wanted to have a choice. He had watched so many of his own herd members turn from withdrawn quiet creatures to strong independent beings, full of inspiration and life. He loved watching the transformation and he wanted to see more of it. It gave him a sense of purpose, accomplishment.

As he trudged up onto the shore and shook out his coat, the stallion gave a rough snort before twisting his head around. When he saw the shivering amber mare, he lowered his head and pricked his ears. She looked so torn....lost. It made his own chest tighten and he felt the urge to comfort her. Trotting along the shore line till he got closer, Cain gave a gentle nicker to announce himself before he stopped a few feet away. He extended his muzzle in case she wanted to exchange breaths, his brows furrowed in concern as he watched her. "Hi, there. I'm Cain. Is there anything I can help you with? I'm sorry, you just look...." His voice trailed off, his smile turning sheepish as he looked away for a minute. Would she get offended if he said she looked lost?
