Ararat

The mare stood in the dark quietly, rich copper brown eyes watching for anything that moved. Normally her pelt was a rich, if not exotic shade, of bay dun, but winter had lengthened her coat and darkened it to tawny. Bathed in the moonlight, she was the remains of the autumn sunset as it faded to gloom.
This was Ararat.

She had much minded her own business in her wanderings across the islands. Tonight, however, the Marwari-shaped female deliberated breaking that solitude. The red being could be seen some distance away, thanks to the moon and the fairly clear landscape. Had they been in the woods, Ararat likely wouldn't have known he was close unless she had gone looking.

Quietly, the dun mare paced forward. Her movements were lithe and muffled by the snow, but Ararat suspected he might hear the crunch of her hoofsteps anyway. She supposed it was curiosity that drove her forward, and why not indulge it for once?

Her copper eyes glinted with amusement as he stood still beneath the powder snowfall. She wondered, but could not tell from her vantage, if he had his tongue out to catch the drifting flakes. Had he done so as a colt? The humored amber of her voice would reach him then as she lingered a few scant strides away.

"Enjoying the night air?"
