I haven't been following NCAA basketball much - no reason to as an IU fan, but College BB is getting weird. IU lost most of it's team to the Transfer portal or NBA - they have no incoming freshman next year signed to scholarship offers. None. They need to build a whole team from the Transfer Portal.
I saw Eddie's post about wanting Calipari to exit UK but he's mastered the roster building ways of the past 20 years pretty well. UK has almost always been at the top of the SEC and competitive nationally. Even with all the one and done guys. I guess part of the argument is he isn't cleaning up in the transfer portal too... is that it?
I don't hear a lot about NIL money influencing players the way it did in football, but just like players skipping bowl games we have entire teams skipping the NIT. Why? Not because they felt snubbed at not getting into the NCAA, not because there's no money to be made playing some extra games. No - it's because the coaches want to spend that time working the transfer portal for next year.
Then there's Gonzaga. I saw them dismantle Kansas in the first 8 minutes of the 2nd half yesterday and go on to wind 89 - 68. This is a school that has made the tourney every year since 1999. They've made the Sweet 16 9 years in a row. Maybe UK should try to hire Mark Few; he seems to have it figured out. Replies:
