Ice Mountain

The Ice Mountain is much smaller than Wolf Mountain, yet climbing up it is far more difficult and shouldn't be attempted in winter. Some creatures collect the shiny stones at the peak of this mountain for necklaces.

"Wise?" in.

She smirked at him. "No, I am far from wise. However, neither am I stupid. I simply speak the truth. How does that make me a fool? Because you do not wish to hear it?"

She kicked her rear legs out to one side, her posture easy though her hackles were raised. "I've no doubt that Youkou loves you. She is more than a little softhearted. I dare say, she would welcome the outcast with open arms were he to simply apologize and show her a little kindness. She would have been just as happy to accept you as a brother as she would a mate. Family is family to her, it was your own selfishness that kept you from seeing that. Call me a child, call me high and mighty, call me a fool...it will not change anything. You may turn your back on what is all you like, that will not make it go away. Trust me on that."

A shadow passed before her eyes as she said the last, her tone becoming somber. She had reason to know that a wrong once committed could rarely be undone. Running away did not solve anything, and turning your back to it showed just as much cowardice. She had tried both, though it shamed her, and was determined not to allow her daughter to languish in an incestuous pairing simply because Youkou and Takedo did not wish to face their own errors.

And yet, as she lay here arguing with the young male she could not help but remember the fights that she’d had with FrozenSoul. He had called her nosey, a pest. Because of that there had come a moment, very recently, when she had vowed never to get involved with what did not concern her. It was a pledge that she had been trying very hard to keep, and had succeeded to some degree. But, by Fate, it was (censored) hard not to stick your nose into someone else’s business when that someone was your own daughter.

She sniffed. "Aye, such abnormalities do strike some families on occasion. But for them it is chance. There is very little that is random about what happened with your young. Anyone could tell you that if you mix blood too closely it will cause problems for any future offspring."

"As for the birds, do not feed me that rubbish about curses. I was apprenticed to my mother until the day she died and she taught me all about prayers, simple medicines, totems, and the like. I’ve seen nothing to indicate that those birds have anything special about them save for an extraordinarily large ego. They are not nearly as powerful as they would have others believe." She backed from beneath the stone and stood. "Now, I suppose I had best help you get to the Forest. Any more of this and I may forget myself and light you aflame. And we would not want that, would we?"
