VIVIANNA

Vi looked at him, her eyes not betraying her of anything as he searched them. The air that surrounded them had been so heavy with humidity, sweat clinging to her neck and flanks, that it sent a shiver down her spine when the cool air came rushing upon them. The thunder in the distance caused the mare to glance away, her gaze sweeping over the water that began to churn with life. She did not want to head for shelter, instead she wanted to run and play. Her body felt alive with the energy that was in the air around them, but instead she returned her gaze to the stallion that moved close to her. His push caused the mare to pin her ears and swish her tail at Kieron, an open display for her lack in liking him trying to herd her. Couldn’t he just ask instead of demand like that? She wasn’t stupid that she needed guiding like that.

Almost reluctantly Vivianna began to move in the direction he had instructed. She was surprised his touch remained, his nearness giving warmth where the wind had chilled her heated hide. Even as they stepped inside the half cave he had wanted to take shelter in, Kieron stayed close and it made Vi turn her gaze to him in question but she didn’t move away.

His muzzle was soft against her cheek, moving down to her jawline in a delicate caress. Vi closed her eyes as she enjoyed his gentle touch and drank in his musky scent. Yet it was his soft words that brought her attention back, causing her to open her eyes again. It was a question she had not expected, had not thought about since her arrival here. Sure she had stayed for a few days now, but now he was asking her to be his? How could she ever just be an ordinary mare in a herd?

Vivianna could see the longing in his eyes, hear the hunger in his voice. He truly wanted her, truly cared about her, and she knew now he would do everything he could to keep her safe. All this time she had been looking for a stallion that would cherish her, to give her the affection she needed and protect her just as fiercely and as she looked into Kieron’s gaze she knew she had found it.

“Kieron…..”

Vivianna didn’t know how to start, what to say. She knew what her answer should be, a simply yes, but the mare felt that she should warn him. But of what she just wasn’t very sure.

“I’m not your average mare Kieron, I cannot be content as a herd mare.”

It was the truth, she couldn’t be. Vivianna knew it was selfish, maybe even snotty to think she deserved to be looked upon as better than others when she knew she really wasn’t. Yet the mare had learned long ago that it just wasn’t in her nature to be anything else as she had tried. She could not fight her true self. It wasn’t that she thought Kieron couldn’t have other mares as she knew it was nature for a stallion to have more than one. But Vivianna could not stand for him to love one more than herself.

“Are you still prepared to make those changes to have me stay?”
