We were able to verify with some enhancements and slide show looks that the tail is indeed 2-3 ft long. The cat was about 29-30 inches high as well. No tufts on the ears. There is indeed a black tip on the tail we managed to pull out too. The feet are uncharacterisically big for a bobcat, and it has thick legs unlike a bobcat. The cat does have some banding on the legs like a bobcat, but young cougars have them sometimes too. He did a great job getting that picture at the distance he shot it at. It didnt leave any tracks, not much snow at the time. Hoping it hangs around enough for prints or another picture! It leans a bit more to the cougar side except for some of the bands on the legs. These cats dont come up and pose in the best positions either unfortunately. A couple "experts" insist its a bobcat, but it doesnt look like any bobcat I've encountered in this area, and I've encountered many. The closest thing to it is a juvenile mountain lion or a hybrid. No question about the long tail, and don't let them get you down Mike.
