Days had passed and Mera became more and more active, energetic and courageous. Every chance the girl got she would sneak away from her mother’s side to race the winds and splash through the crashing waves. The feel of the chilling salt water against her legs and sides always sent a thrill through her but soon that even became boring. Despite the scolding she always got and a few sharp bites every now and again, Mera still continued to sneak off. Today was no different but instead of going to the shoreline, she went farther inland.


Mera’s legs moved at a long swinging gate for her gawky foal body as her wide eyes took in her new surroundings. Her mother’s scent did not cover this land but instead a more musky scent she had never come across before. In her short life she had not even scented a stallion before, her father gone from the land her mother still stayed in. It did not make the girl shy but instead become even more curious, hoping to seek out what would carry such a smell.


Stepping away from the palm trees, Esmeralda looked out across another sandy opening to see a new shore line. Had she really traveled that far or had she accidentally cut back to the edge of the island? Either way it wasn’t within the territory she had lived in so it made it all the more exciting. Letting out a squeal and giving a kick up of her heels with a toss of her head, Mera darted out and towards the waters. Tiny hooves digging into the sand to toss it up in her wake in quickly turned to the spray of water as she met a upcoming wave. Raising her head high to let her thin chest slice through the water, the chilling water sent a shiver up her spin but the young girl ignored it. Instead she continued to splash around, totally ignoring her surroundings.
