Silent people have the loudest minds.

Being in a herd was starting to finally relax my nerves instead of unsettle them and the new friends I've made are more than wonderful company. In truth my mind often wandered to the whereabouts of my father and brothers. Were they alright? Did father finally settle things with his main lady and our territorial uncle? All of these worries stayed locked in my mind and I focused on the content feeling of now. Now I was with great mares and a friendly pair of stallions ruled over the forest gently.

The now was why I am happy. Whilst thinking such blissful things I had my head down to the ground. My muzzle digging through dead leaves to find new plants that were trying to take hold, but winter still said 'No, it isn't time yet.' So, they still laid dormant. When I had plucked a mouthful of grass my ears swiveled to a familiar sound. Lifting my head up I saw the rounded form of Gandy steadily make her way over and she gave a gentle nudge to my side.

Instead of actually eating the grass I gently set it back down in a pile near my hoof and nuzzled her shoulder in response. A smile came across my lips as she spoke. 'Is it spring yet?' I laughed lightly and shook my head. Sadly no, not yet anyway. It's close though, sprouts are trying to take root. Looking at Gandy softly I gestured to her side. Can't wait for the foal to come, huh? To think about it, I haven't seen a foal since the matriarch finally conceived.

Even then though, I wasn't allowed anywhere near the child. Looking in her eyes I gave a bright expression. No doubt you'll be an exemplary mother. Fierce, but gentle. It was written all over the poor girls face, how uncomfortable she was and how much she wanted birthing season to come already.
