AND SO IT BEGINS

YEVA
Yeva was not normally so clumsy, in fact, she was normally rather graceful and nimble on her feet but of course, the one time she should trip and fall, it would be in front of not one, not two, but three other equine. Being a foreigner in a new land was difficult enough without making a fool of herself in front of the locals. Something told her she would never live this down.

Flicking her ears toward the huge stallion, she managed to pull herself together enough to actually look at him. She still couldn’t get over how tall he was; she felt tiny in comparison. “Ah, fine.” She managed in response, her ears swivelling uneasily at the sound of the other stallion’s laughter. A half-smile, half-frown crossed her face – she could see how it might be funny but at the same time, the embarrassment was still suffocating. She also had no idea if he was laughing at her in a menacing way or just found the situation kind of funny. It was absurd after all, perhaps even she would laugh about it later – much later.

The bay mare frowned as he spoke, thoroughly confused by his words “Ate what?” she asked, not sure if he could hear her over his own laughter. She flicked her tail, and screwed up her nose briefly. “What is a klutz?” she’d never heard the word before, was it supposed to be an insult?

Suddenly, to make her embarrassment worse, a strong voice broke into the conversation. Yeva jumped at the sound, and cast her gaze upon a black mare who was almost as tall mare as the pale stallion.Yeva couldn’t help but wonder if the lost islands were a land of giants. The black mare’s voice held a foreign tongue and Yeva couldn’t help but like her because of it – not to mention her confidence and the fact that she was sticking up for Yeva. Despite their common ground, and Yeva appreciating the mare sticking up for her, the bay did think perhaps she was being too harsh on the two stallions. “Oh no. Please not fight.” she begged, trying to place herself between the large, pushing mare and the laughing stallion “I am sure he did not mean harm.”
