I am the razor in the hands of your heart;
And I am the razor in the hands of God.
Evaline's expression softened as Inka revealed that she too, had a relationship with Valentine. The golden mare had been fiercely jealous of sharing the spotted stallion with the other mares who lived with them in the Prairie. She could feel a pang of jealously now too as she assessed Inka again with her wide brown eyes. But in an unlikely turn of events for Evaline, she did her best to suppress the wasted emotion. Valentine was a great stallion. He had many children among the islands. He ran a robust herd. She should feel grateful to find another mare who knew his kindness and his unwavering ability to look after those he cared for. So Evaline merely sighed, but forced a smile across her lips before bobbing her head in agreement.
"I feel lucky to have known him." She said, her voice trailing off. Evaline was still emotional when she thinks about him and how he'd left her behind. But she didn't want to get into that now. "Where are your children now?"
Despite her initial reaction, Evaline quickly began to warm up to the idea that she'd met a new mare who'd had a connection to Valentine. It was nice to have such an intimate detail of her life in common with someone else. And with a stranger she just happened to meet by chance today, no less.
"Two of my children are Valentine's. One still lives in the Prairie with my other son, Shamwari. Valentine raised him, though Rook is actually his father." Evaline rambled on, almost more like an audible strain of thought rather than a constructed sentence meant for Inka to hear. She so rarely talked about Rook and she hadn't mentioned his name publicly since she told Valentine about him when she came home to the Prairie pregnant. It felt good to say his name now, with this stranger who probably didn't know him at all anyway. Evaline was tired of keeping secrets.
