Restlessness filled her bones like fire. Once the young mare would have burned it off with a brisk jog around the borders, but she knew this restlessness was a different sort. It was not the kind born from physical inactivity; it had been creeping up on her for days - no, weeks - and no amount of exercise would sate it. Koray had been more reclusive than normal since his outburst, and with the rest of the herd gone the desert had become a lonely place. Evren did not like the inactivity, the lack of bodies. It made her feel exposed and understimulated. The restlessness she felt, she eventually realized, was borne from a desire to populate the desert with new faces.
She had no intention of breeding, mind you. Evren was only two years old and the thought of bearing children was an abstract, faraway thing too bewildering to consider. No, she had other things in mind - things that Koray seemed to have no interest in doing, despite the fact they should have been his responsibility. And she had no intention of bringing it up with him, not after what had happened between them.
The excitement of having a plan was bubbling within her as she sought Vita Nova out. Her brown eyes were bright and her step energetic as she approached the older mare in the dusk-glow of the beach. "Hello, Vita," Evren greeted her, and touched her shoulder in a gesture of casual affection. "I have a question for you. Would you have any objection to covering for me if I were to sneak out for a few days? I'd hate to leave you alone with my brother, but it's for a good cause, I promise."
